Vancouver— Spoliarium, a platform that empowers artists, galleries, protects artworks and connects patrons through art exhibits and an online marketplace announced their 1st Live Streamed Global Art Exhibit entitled “Socially Undistanced. CoViD-19 Art.” which will be held on Friday, August 28th— 7PM Pacific Time | Saturday, August 29th— 10AM Philippine Time. The mission is to help the global community of the Art Industry during this time of CoViD-19 pandemic. All proceeds will be donated to CoViD-19 frontliners, test kits and projects in the Philippines.
What is Socially Undistanced and CoViD-19 Art?
Socially Undistanced means to connect socially online in a meaningful way and CoViD-19 Art refers to artworks done by the Artists in the time of CoViD-19 quarantine. The CoViD-19 pandemic is an on-going health crisis which could be worse than World War II. After its emergence in Asia it widely spread across nations. Administrative bodies internationally have recommended or enforced a policy of “social distancing” to help minimize the spread: and we at Spoliarium want to find new ways to connect by using art.
Spoliarium is a popular word in the Philippines as it is the historical painting by the Filipino artist Juan Luna submitted to the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884 in Madrid, where it garnered the first gold medal. It is often misspelled as “Spolarium”. Also it is a Latin word referring to the basement of the Roman Colosseum where the fallen and dying gladiators are dumped and devoid of their worldly possessions. Today, this is the digital platform for the Community of Artists, Art Collectors and Art Lovers who help one another in empowering artists, protecting artworks and connecting patrons or art collectors worldwide through art exhibits and an online marketplace.
